Pasay City, Philippines – October 11, 2024 – The Philippine Paint and Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) successfully held its 3rd General Membership Meeting (GMM) at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, in conjunction with the celebration of the Philippine Paint Industry Week. The day-long event featured insightful presentations on fire safety, sustainability, and critical environmental regulations, attended by over 40 representatives from leading companies in the industry.
The session began with a warm welcome from Reggie Yu, President of the PPCAI, who officially opened the event with his remarks:
“The demand for decorative and protective coatings continues to rise as urbanization and infrastructure development take center stage in the country’s economic agenda. Today’s symposium will serve as a powerful reminder of the innovation and collaboration that fuel our success," Yu said.
The morning session kicked off with a seminar on “Fire Safety/Foam Extinguishers”, presented by Mr. David O. Chung, Mr. Gerry Yap, and Ms. Beverly Kiak of DNL Industries.
They discussed the essential use and maintenance of foam fire extinguishers in safeguarding facilities from fire hazards, particularly relevant for companies dealing with chemical products. The session stressed the importance of proper fire safety protocols in ensuring workplace safety.
Mid-morning featured an inspiring talk titled “Net Zero Emission Hero for Sustainability” by multi-awarded Science Diplomat Glenn S. Banaguas. Banaguas encouraged participants to actively engage in climate action by adopting sustainable practices that reduce carbon emissions, aligning with global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. He called on the paint and coatings industry to lead the charge in integrating green technologies and advancing sustainability in their operations.
In the afternoon, Maria Fe Rubio from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) delivered a comprehensive presentation on environmental regulations, focusing on DAO 92-29, which governs the management of toxic substances and hazardous wastes, and DAO 2015-09, which addresses illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Rubio’s presentation highlighted the importance of adhering to these regulations to protect the environment and public health.
