PASIG CITY — The Philippine Paint and Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) convened its 2nd Board Meeting for the year today, July 29, 2025 (Tuesday), at 12:00 PM, held at XO46 Heritage Bistro in Estancia, Capitol Commons, Pasig City. The working luncheon brought together the organization’s officers and board members in a productive and forward-looking session that underscored continuity, collaboration, and innovation within the local paint and coatings industry.

Warm Welcome to New Director
Presiding over the meeting was PPCAI President Reggie Yu of Times Paint, who opened the gathering with a warm introduction of Mr. Marvin Gutierrez of BASF Philippines, the newly appointed Director to the Board, replacing April Ramos who was recently assigned abroad. Marvin brings with him fresh perspectives and a strong background in business development, further strengthening the Association’s leadership team.

Addressing Legal and Structural Realignments
One of the key matters discussed was the ongoing condominium transfer from the former Philippine Association of Paint Manufacturers (PAPM) to PPCAI, a transition critical to institutional continuity and legal compliance. The Board authorized coordination with Reynald and Meryl Manabat, CPAs, to review potential legal and tax implications.

Strengthening Membership Policies
In a bid to fortify stakeholder engagement, Director Sam Conan Chua of Chemisol presented a draft of the Associate Member Policy and Guidelines, which generated constructive feedback from the Board. The proposal aims to broaden participation while ensuring alignment with PPCAI’s mission and industry standards.

International Affairs: APIC 2025 and 2026
The Board finalized the Philippine delegation for the Asian Paint Industry Council (APIC) Conference to be held in Shanghai, China from September 1 to 5, 2025, including discussion of presentation topics and preparatory materials. In line with this, early preparations began for PPCAI’s hosting of APIC 2026, with initial discussions on venue options, budget estimates, and logistical needs for what is expected to be a high-profile international gathering of industry leaders.

PTC and Merger Talks
Vice President Patrick Negrete of Boysen Philippines provided promising updates on the Omnibus Paint Technology Course (PTC), reporting increased interest from both member companies and academic institutions. The program continues to play a pivotal role in professionalizing and uplifting the technical capabilities of the industry.

Committee Updates: Car Raffle, Events, and Paint Industry Week
Under Committee Updates, Director Sam Conan Chua of Chemisol, speaking on behalf of Director Jonathan Bangyan of H-Chem, shared that the PPCAI Car Raffle was moving forward with the grand prize approved by the Board. Finalization of ticket printing and marketing strategies is underway. The grand draw is set for December 3, during the Association’s annual Christmas Party.

Director Alix Reyes of Chemrez reported on upcoming social and networking events, including a Beer Pong Night with a “Neon Nights Showdown” glow-in-the-dark twist, Bingo Socials, a General Membership Meeting in September, which will coincide with preparations for the Board Elections in November and a highly-anticipated “Starlight Soiree, A Cosmic Christmas Party.”

Lastly, the Board expressed enthusiasm over a series of Technical Symposia being planned for Paint Industry Week this October, an annual highlight that brings together professionals, researchers, and business leaders for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Looking Ahead
As the Association continues to evolve in response to shifting market trends and regulatory landscapes, the 2nd Board Meeting of 2025 reflected a shared commitment to innovation, professional development, and industry unity. With seasoned leadership and renewed energy, PPCAI is poised to further its mission of advancing the standards, collaboration, and sustainability of the Philippine paint and coatings sector.
