SMX Manila, Philippines – As part of the ongoing celebration of Philippine Paint Industry Week, the Philippine Paint and Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) hosted a highly successful Technical Symposium on innovations in paint production and sustainability. Held in conjunction with this annual industry event, the symposium brought together 37 attendees from 15 leading companies in the paint and coatings sector, offering insights into cutting-edge technologies and strategies for a more sustainable future.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Paint and Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) President Reggie Yu expressed gratitude to the industry’s key players, especially the association’s manufacturing members, for their continuous support and participation. He emphasized that the week serves as a time to reflect on the industry’s achievements, promote innovation, and strengthen bonds among members.
He further emphasized the critical role of the paint industry in the country’s economic growth, highlighting the tremendous contributions of its over 70 manufacturers and suppliers.
Yu also stressed the sector’s importance in various key areas, including construction, automotive, and industrial applications. As urbanization and infrastructure development continue to drive demand for decorative and protective coatings, Yu expressed optimism for the industry’s future, noting that knowledge-sharing and technological advancements — such as those discussed at the symposium — are essential to sustaining growth.
"The Philippine Paint Industry Week is not just a celebration, but a platform where we recognize the significant role we play in nation-building," Yu remarked, praising the hard work and dedication of everyone in attendance. He called on participants to take full advantage of the symposium to learn, collaborate, and explore innovations that will help propel the industry forward.
Yu also extended his deepest thanks to the Technical Committee, led by Vice-President Patrick Negrete, for their efforts in organizing the event. "Your commitment to making this event a success is deeply appreciated," Yu said, adding that the insights gained during the symposium would play a pivotal role in the continued advancement of the paint industry.
In closing, Yu urged participants to seize the opportunity to strengthen the bonds that unite the industry, ensuring that the Philippine paint industry remains a vital force in the nation’s economic development for many years to come.
The event featured expert speakers who provided invaluable knowledge and expertise. Leading the presentations was Mr. Swee Leng Thomas Tan of BYK Additives, who spoke on "BYK Additives: Solution Provider." His presentation showcased how advanced additives can not only improve product performance but also streamline production and reduce waste, offering solutions for many of the challenges faced by the paint and coatings industry. BYK Additives has long been recognized as a leader in providing innovative technologies, and Mr. Tan’s talk reinforced their commitment to driving efficiency and sustainability in the field.
Adding to the knowledge-sharing were Lovely Garcia and Alissandra Reyes, who jointly presented on "Reduce Waste, Increase Efficiency: Transform Paint Production for a Greener Future through POS Dispensing." The symposium is just one component of Philippine Paint Industry Week, which continues to be a vital occasion for reflecting on the progress made within the industry. Proclamation No. 1090, signed into law by then-President Fidel V. Ramos in 1997, established this week as an annual observance to celebrate the achievements of the paint and coatings industry, promote innovative developments, and encourage stronger relationships among industry players. Each year, the week serves as a reminder of the sector’s collective efforts to push the boundaries of creativity, sustainability, and innovation.
As Philippine Paint Industry Week continues, PPCAI’s Technical Symposium stands out as a crucial event that not only highlights current trends but also reinforces the importance of industry collaboration in achieving a more sustainable future. Through the presentations on additive solutions and waste reduction, the symposium demonstrated that the future of the paint and coatings sector lies in the integration of innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
The event concluded with a call for continued innovation and partnership, as attendees left with a renewed commitment to advancing their businesses and contributing to the broader goals of the industry.
For over two decades, Philippine Paint Industry Week has served as a beacon for innovation and unity within the sector, and this year’s symposium continues that tradition, paving the way for a greener and more efficient future for the paint and coatings industry. 🖌️🖌️🖌️
