Formal Opening Session of Paint Technology Course II at University Hotel, UP Diliman
Diliman, Quezon City — The formal opening session of the much-anticipated Paint Technology Course II (PTC II) was held at the Oblation Lounge, University Hotel within the University of the Philippines campus in Quezon City, marking a significant milestone as the first such event since the onset of the pandemic in 2019. This advanced course in coatings science and paint formulation saw the participation of 29 students representing 17 member companies, reflecting the industry's renewed vigor and commitment to advancing technical knowledge and innovation.
Day One of the course featured a series of insightful lectures, beginning with a general introduction to the course. This was followed by a welcome message from Reggie Yu, President of the Philippine Paint and Coatings Association (PPCA), who underscored the importance of continuous learning and collaboration in driving the industry forward.
Engr. Dianne Ruth Mendoza from Pacific Resins delivered a comprehensive Overview of Coatings Science, providing participants with a solid foundation in the principles and advancements in coatings technology.
This was followed by a lecture on Quality Control by Engr. Cathy Parel from Asian Coatings, who emphasized the critical role of rigorous quality standards in ensuring product excellence and customer satisfaction.
The Paint Technology Course, a pioneering flagship project initially organized by the then-Philippine Association of Paint Manufacturers (PAPM), has been a cornerstone of industry education since its inception on June 17, 1989. Over the years, it has evolved into a highly anticipated event that embodies the association’s commitment to advancing the science and artistry of coatings.
The Technical Committee, headed by Vice President Patrick Negrete, played a pivotal role in bringing this session to fruition after more than four years of hiatus. Their tireless efforts and dedication ensured that the course met the high standards expected by both the association and its members.
This year’s session brought together a vibrant mix of representatives from various paint and chemical suppliers as well as seasoned industry practitioners, creating a unique environment where youthful curiosity meets seasoned expertise. This dynamic blend is expected to foster innovation and in-depth learning, as participants are motivated by a shared purpose: to deepen their understanding of paint formulation and analysis, and to contribute to the ever-evolving world of coatings technology.
Looking ahead, the next session of PTC II will be held at the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) at the Ateneo de Manila University Campus on July 10. This continuation promises to build on the solid foundation laid during the opening session, further enriching participants' knowledge and skills in advanced coatings science and paint formulation.
